Roulette

One thing that makes roulette popular among both new players and experienced players, is the simplicity of the rules. The rules are so simple that even players with no experience with gambling can play roulette like a professional after only reading the rules once or by observing other players at the tables. If you’re a new player or a skilled player in any other casino game and you want to learn the game, here are some important things you should know about the game.

The basics of roulette

Roulette is a game where up to eight players play against the dealer or croupier. The dealer / croupier is responsible for everything that happens at the table, but also the playability of the game: when to bet, when to turn the wheel, to determine the winning number and the collection of losses and pay of profits. Roulette is played on a special table, which indicates exactly where players can place bet. Also included in the table, a roulette wheel with numbered squares in different colors and a small metal ball. The goal of the game is to accurately predict in which numbered box on the roulette wheel the ball falls. Obviously, the wheel will spin first before the ball starts rolling.

Before a player starts playing it must first purchase special roulette chips at the checkout because there are no standard casino chips used at a roulette table. Every player at the table has their own color of chips that can be used for making bets. If a player decides to stop they can redeem the chips for real casino chips or cash.

Roulette can be played with three different tables. There are French, American and European tables. French and European tables have boxes numbered from 0 to 36, and other boxes outside the exact numbers. The American table also has the table boxes 0 to 36, but this table also has a box with the double 0. The difference between these tables is also visible in the roulette wheel. French and European roulette wheels have 37 slots, while an American Roulette wheel has 38 slots.

Placing bets

Roulette players have many options for placing bets. The bets are based on where the player wants to place bets on, within the field of numbers (inside bets) or outside the field (outside bets). When you place bets on a structured and specific way, then you’re more likely to win.
There are six different inside bets are: the straight, the split, the street, the corner, the five-liner and the six-liner. The inside bets at roulette can bring the most money, but are also the hardest to make a profit.

The straight is a bet in a square around one number. The split is a bet on two numbers the same time while a street bets on a range of numbers in the same row. The corner is a bet on four numbers next to each other. A five-liner is a bet that only can be made on an American roulette table, since it is a bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. The six-liner is a bet that is placed on two rows next to each other.

Other rules

There are several rules that are generally not implemented on all roulette tables. Some casinos offer a “En Prison” rule. This means that when the number 0 appears, players have the opportunity to take back the bet or to let it lie for the next round. There is also a “La Partage” rule where players as they bet on even numbers only lose half their bet if the ball falls on 0.
